Ways to balance bigger ships to make them usefull

OK right now it seems to be a case of corvette wars with a few destroyers thrown in. Bigger ships are pretty useless.

My ideal is to lower the change in space and power of components as the class size increases.

To offset that have ship destroyer and above have a stupidly high maintenance cost.

A average player would only in times of peace be able to afford say 6 destroyers out at maybe 50k per tik maintenance.

Battleships maintenance should almost bankrupt a player with them only out in times of war.

To stop the expenses putting people off you can have it so that when stationed in a station the maintenance cost is only ¼ . And you can also have the option of mothballing the ship. Doing that reduces maintenance to 1/10 but you have to pay a cast and time to recommission it.

These ships should be able to complety decimate corvettes and escorts with a weakness to fighters.

Stations should there more be made more powerful to balance this.

Corvettes really should only be used for patrols and raiders. Not heavy attack ships.

Bigger ships don’t mean anything to newbie players anyway. As long as they have armoured and protected colony’s there are safe from battleships in orbit.

Anther thing to add high mainyance would stop players leaveing there ships everywere. Will help with sever space. Also i think would encourage wars abit more. If you havent got a players battleship and fleet of destroyers and corvettes already loitering in your system your gunna feel abit for brave to attack.

So you want to make bigger ships useful, and then your idea is to add maintenance costs to them so that noone will actually use them?

Your idea would pretty much guarantee noone will ever bother with anything over the size of a corvette.

No, just no.


Now I don't know if they've changed much since live, but battleships were fine then, and very useful, people just need to use them properly.

Dont think you have read the idea right. The points is that they are extremly usefull in times of war, but you dont just have them hanging around doing nothing in times of peace. You keep them docked untill needed with vettes and escorts doing patrols.

When the time comes for war these will be killing machins only stobable really by large numbers of fighters or stations.

Useful or not, why would anyone use them if they have high maintenance costs, when instead you can just have a huge corvette fleet and use it as is?
Doesn't matter how powerful you make it, if you add high costs, people will not use it.

Yeah and you have a huge vett fleet mine. It good when its peacefull. But I delclare war on your ass undock my battleships ,crusiers and destroyers that would then make very very very short work of those vettes.

We are talking be outclassed like a life guard patrol boat would be by the bismark.


Of course vettes would have there place for scouting and raiding on the ground. But they should'nt be ships used in the major line of battle as they are now. Corvettes SHOULD be support vessels.
