I think that a good upgrade for the game would be the ability to recycle components in the refinery. that way all the minerals for components that we don't need any more is not wasted.
It would be fun if it came as a special research.

That dont sound a bad idea, i have vast ammounts of unused stuff which is no longer appropriate for use. would you suggest refining down to alloys or all the way to minerals? with that in mind perhaps it could be a 2 part special research, the alloy stage common and the mineral stage uncommon or rare

Down to alloy stage would be good for me.

After thinking about it a bit more, if it's an old component which uses old alloys, if you've deleted the old alloy designs or even the original component design, upon recycling the component i don't know if there would be a record of what the component was made from so it wouldn't know what alloys to give you. Unless it broke every component down to a choice of a handful of common minerals or something

And the specials could progressively give you a greater recovery percentage.

Agreed, the amount you would get at 100 percent recovery could be calculated based upon the components hull requirements perhaps, assuming there is no data regarding how much of a mineral/alloy went into building it
