Hello everyone. I know it's been awhile, but I'd like to share a game I've been watching with all of you. It's called StarDrive. It looks a lot like a plain old RTS version of beyond protocol. It looks very interesting but is only in closed beta at the moment. I say it's worth checking out. The dev claims he's not Aurelius or EnochDagor, so I'm inclined to believe him.


I have by no means abandoned Beyond Protocol. It is still my favorite game of all time! However, we all know how much time it requires to play. So, at the moment I only barely have enough time for one single player game at roughly two months per. I do however have time to cruise forums and look for new MMORTS's.

So how is it, I like waiting awhile before I get a game so all the patches will fix things.


This seems to be alittle like BP also, and looking for testers.

I managed to get a copy and I have been playing since Christmas. It's a great game but it is still in beta for good reason. Don't let that deter you though. Zero/Dan, the dev is hard at work adding features and squashing bugs. Most bugs I report are gone by the next build. Most builds are about 5 days apart. He's already to .90.1 on the version counter.

The good:
Design your own ships.
Every ship has a "star drive" which allows FTL travel, but you have a choice of adding more warp speed, or more sublight maneuverability to every ship.Weapons are pretty varied. There are lasers, flak cannons, plasma turrets, tractor beams, emps, beams that drain energy, missiles, and missiles that phase through armor. There are also special components like warp inhibitors, inertial dampeners, repair drones, and fighter bays.

You can choose to invest a portion of your empire's production, via credits, into agents who then can gain Intel, damage relations, and a bunch of other things I haven't tried yet.

Bud your own race.
While the tech is pretty much the same for each race, you can pick and choose certain racial traits, both good and bad which augment your race. For instance, a race could be blind which hurts weapon hit rates, but that gives you enough points to make your guys smart as well, which results in faster research. Or if you are not into diplomacy you might choose the repulsive trait which pretty much makes everyone hate you, but make up for it with extra strength ground troops and maybe eagle eyed gunners. Pick as many as you like, it's your people.

Anomalies, random events, and easter eggs.
While I have yet to find any easter eggs I'm fairly certain they are there. I do know that there are artifacts you gain during a game by investigating anomalies. Some make your soldiers stronger, some give you more income per tick, some help your diplomacy abilities. It seems there will be much more of this to come once the game is finished.

The bad:
My number one caveat. There are many random things which will make the game crash, however, the frequency has become much lower even in the past month. Gher is also a pretty handy auto save feature which tends to save most of my work.

Game speed.
Maybe its because I like my battles enormous, and my opponents god like, but I seem to have issues running large games past the development phase of the game because of the lag. Zero has said he's working on it. I hope so!

No multiplayer.
Not yet at least. I think I've heard it's coming, but not until after release. It's one thing to design a single player game, but quite another to make a multiplayer game, as we all should know!

I still fully recommend this game, but if you'd rather wait for the finished thing, you may want to give it a few months.
