Ok, noticed no one has provided an update to the initial instructions, so here it goes:
To play the game, go to www.afterprotocol.com, and note the two blue tabs on the right-hand side of the page.

Click on each tab in order, and follow the instructions for each. In other words, first Register, then Get.

Once you have done both, start the game client, and wait for the files to install...you may need to do it more than once for all files to download/install. Once that is done, you should be set to go...be sure to say "hello" to me in game if you see me online.

If you want a copy of the strategy guide, you can download it at this link:

www.afterprotocol.com/Files/Beyond%20Pro...Strategy%20Guide.pdf

Note: The strategy guide is a little outdated, but it will help you figure out the game.

**Don't forget to validate your Login information via the e-mail they send to your registered address, or it may expire after a limited time.

***Also, because of the previous edit of my original post, I should clarify that I am not SirParadox, nor am I in any way directly affiliated with him...I just play the game. Someone else added that contact information to the post.

To contact the entity known as SirParadox (one of the developers and moderators of After Protocol), please use the following information (or, if it is outdated, please remove this line starting with "To contact..." and including the following):

AIM: NacParadox.
YHO: SirParadox2001
MSN: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
GOOG: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
astra: SirParadox
ICQ: 652116

!!! When Leaving Aurelium and Going Live!!!

Be sure to try following the directions given for going to the live server.

If the instructions fail, use the above information to contact Sir Paradox to tell him about the problem. He will then help you to respawn in a different system.

You should double check the directory you put it into...make sure it is it's own folder/directory on the C: drive (named "Beyond Protocol").

Re: Tutorial: Installation and Account Registration 5 years, 4 months ago #664

Yeah thats all in order =< I dont really get it.. seems to only crash when it tries to connect to the server, I changed the IP in the update.ini and it dosnt crash, =o ?

You should make it clear that you're not running the same BP that Vimes and co. are running.

Re: Tutorial: Installation and Account Registration 5 years, 4 months ago #678

you should also make it clear no one knows how to play vimes & co BP server.accept for comments on the forums, no one even knows his exists. or how to access it. and you will also recall, that 1 server is better for BP. so id suggest absorption.

Hmm...all this time we've been setting up our accounts on a different server from the one that is potentially being set up as the future main server? Or will everything from both servers be transferred over to a third server?

prefferably amerlian, we will maintain a single server for game play, as you know, the Paraserver (the only one anyone knows how to loggin to or even play) has been up and running for months, but hadnt had anyone playing on because paradox and anxcon hadn't advertized its existence, i fixed that, and now we have about 30 players that use the server. if we split up and start playing 2 or 5 different servers that will cause problems imo, because of the resultant split in the player community, this isnt minecraft, starting up an empire and maintaining it takes more then a day to do.and the resultant spread will thin our community a bit, not good. not good at all.

My understanding from talking with Vimes is that his son Skazz is doing some large rewrites to the server code. If that proceeds in a timely fashion then having a single server will be impossible due to the differences in code. However, a timely fashion does seem rather unlikely. In any case, we must proceed in indicating that these are two separate projects for now. If they choose to join forces then great, but that's up to them.

Is "Paraserver" the official name you would like to use?

its Sirparadox and Anxcons sever, i merely act as its custodian, you would have to private message para and anx about it, but they prolly wouldnt care if you called it "paraserver"

Ok I've received word that Trifler wants 'after protocol' or whatnot off these forms for 'hijacking' them. Etc.. Etc..

I was under the impression, via public notes from Vimes, and emails from him to me, that he wanted the bp.org community to take off, continue to grow, as the player community. So when I put up my web gear I decided to forward the forum to here. My show of support for his hard work. Has that changed? Are we to be booted, or pushed off to a truncated forum to attempt to shed less light on an active server in the hopes the c# re-write is completed?

"paraserver"

"all this time we've been setting up our accounts on a different server from the one that is potentially being set up as the future main server"

Secondly... I see notes of 'para server' or whatnot, and confusion as to what to call it. Let it be know that the afterprotocol.com server is about as close to 'The official game server' as you can get, hosted by former devs. Initially it was so we could continue developing, however a buttload of players decided to show up, so server development has kinda slowed down, allowing players to enjoy an online server..

Like I said, there is no other server more official or more mainstream. Anything else would be a stub toy project.

Calling it 'Para Server' sounds like it's some second rate server hosted by some lame player named Para.. It's the AfterProtocol server hosted by the former BP devs.

I hope I wasn't inflammatory.. just I keep hearing from peeps in my game that the bp.org website is against us, wants to get rid of us, are better coders than us, etc, etc, etc.. and I really thought we were going to work together

Sorry for the confusion, but if you read through the thread yourself you can see that there was no intent to kick anyone off anywhere. In fact a dedicated forum has been created for After Protocol. Cyrus is the only one who freaked out about it. The only thing I was asking for was that the original post be titled to indicate that it's for After Protocol. No hernias required. It was confusing before because it was mixed in with everything else. I'm sure you can see how having two different threads explaining how to install Beyond Protocol with no indication that they're different, would lead to chaos.

Please take a look at the post I made in the After Protocol forum where I requested info on how you would like the After Protocol forum organized, if you wish further organization.

Also, Paraserver was the name that just came up in the convo by Cyrus/Amerlain (see earlier posts). Now that you're voiced your disapproval of that name, we obviously won't use it.

Before you do an installation, first check if your hardware is up to the task:

To find out, go to

www.systemrequirementslab.com

Select Beyond Protocol from the pulldown menu and install the plugin.
This plugin will analyze your computer and report if your system (including your graphics card) is good enough.

Best guess would be either run it with elevated 'run as administrator' permissions, or,check your .net. We've had a few folks here or there having install problems over the years...never really found a good solution as they were all on updated systems and bp only uses net 2.0
